“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.” – Shannon L. Alder

All of us are indebted to the past, to those who precede us.

We drink from wells we have not dug. We enjoy liberties we have not won. We share faith whose foundations we have not laid. We are called to partner in faith with those who have gone before us.

We are also seeds for the future—for those who follow.

We dream and envision and set things in motion. The fruit of our choices will only be known by others whom we may never meet. It is our honor to give the best we have to those who will follow.

“Someone is sitting in the shade today, because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
– Warren Buffett

How Your Support Helps

Over the years, the gifts we’ve been blessed with have provided for much needed renovations in order to keep our communities beautiful, safe, and comfortable. Outdoor living spaces where friends and family make lifelong memories; living areas where we gather to strengthen the mind, body, and spirit; cheerful lounges; and more, have truly made PSC a home. Gifts offered unselfishly by our friends have made all of these things, and more, possible.

Contributions to the Foundation are put to use in a number of ways. Unrestricted gifts help us deliver programs and services that enrich the lives of our residents every day. They help us make transportation to cultural or entertainment events possible and provide for important programs, such as Pastoral Care, that our residents find truly valuable.

The financial benefits of giving (tax deductibility, income, etc.) are real and can be easily calculated. However, nobody can put a dollar value on the most important effects your generous support makes possible. The connection our residents feel to their friends and neighbors, compassionate care for those in need, being surrounded by friendly faces, and receiving support from others in good times and times of turmoil all make PSC a special place. Most of this comes from the help of our friends’ charitable giving, and their true worth is beyond measure!

Our Legacies are Intertwined

All older people deserve to live in a safe community where they are loved and valued for the unique creation they are. If you have been blessed with more than you can take with you, we petition your generosity. Your Legacy Gift will ensure the ongoing support of the not-for-profit Presbyterian Senior Care of WNY’s mission. Without the vision of select partners like you, the high level of care and community our residents enjoy will be lost to history.

Why join our Legacy Society?

Your generosity will live on in the lives and gratitude of future residents and their families.

The tax burden to family members could be minimized by correctly allocating assets from the estate.

We’ll send regular communications on the happenings at our communities so you can experience the joy of your generosity fully.

You will forever be counted among those who remembered those most often forgotten.

Giving & Donations

Giving greatly requires thought and planning. Here are some common questions and answers to help you decide the best way to make an impact in the lives of current and future residents.

A

Begun in 1990, the Foundation’s purpose is to attract contributions from the community and manage the gifts appropriately to provide financial support for Presbyterian Senior Care of WNY. Donations to the Foundation come from residents, family members, corporations, and charitable foundations who wish to make a difference in the lives of our residents.

A

Contributions to the Foundation are put to use in a number of ways. Unrestricted gifts help us deliver programs and services that enrich the lives of our residents every day. They help us make transportation to cultural or entertainment events possible and provide for important programs, such as Pastoral Care, that our residents find truly valuable.

Bequests from residents and family members have made possible building acquisition, renovations, and programs in our Lockport, Williamsville, and Ken-Ton communities. Look around, and you’ll see plaques commemorating so many things made possible by the kind remembrances of residents, families, and foundations alike.

A

Yes. The Foundation has its own 501 (c)(3) status with the IRS as a tax-exempt organization. Your outright gifts to the Foundation are fully tax-deductible if you itemize. Gifts of appreciated securities and those made to fund other types of arrangements carry their own set of tax benefits.

Our correct legal title is Presbyterian Senior Care of Western New York Foundation, Inc.

Our tax identification number is 16-1319252.

A

Fortunately, almost anyone can make a gift to the Presbyterian Senior Care Foundation. Over the years, our friends have made gifts in a wide variety of ways. In each instance the size of the gift was determined by the donor’s own personal situation, and the amounts were as varied as the people who supported us so kindly.

A

We’re grateful for your gift in whatever form you decide to make it. Our generous benefactors usually support us in one of the following ways:

  • Cash: Many people simply write a check because it’s simple to do and has an immediate impact on a program or at a community they deeply care about.
  • Gifts of Stock: Many people own stock that has gone up in value but no longer pays a good dividend. Making a gift of appreciated securities allows you to receive a tax deduction for your gift without incurring capital gains taxes. We’re happy to work with your advisors to maximize the benefits to you and PSC by giving stock.
  • A Bequest in Your Will: By remembering the Presbyterian Senior Care Foundation in your Estate Plan, you’re continuing a legacy of support that has helped sustain us for many years. Bequest donors have access to all their assets while alive, and once these assets are no longer needed, those gifts can be put to use to enhance the lives of seniors here at PSC.

A

Of course! There are fourteen designated funds at the Foundation intended to support a particular program, community, or purpose. Your gift can be directed to help seniors who might not otherwise be able to live at PSC. We have funds designed to support Pastoral Care and endowments to help our employees continue their education. In addition, some of our donors have set up funds to defray the costs of nutritious meals for residents needing assistance.

In almost any instance, we’re able to match a donor’s intention with a fund designed to meet an identified need. We’re always happy to discuss the impact you’d like your gift to have and work to be sure your philanthropy achieves that goal.

A

Yes, there are a number of giving methods that provide you with an income that you cannot outlive. For many years, generous donors have used charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, and other methods of giving to fulfill their philanthropic objectives. Each method has its own set of benefits and costs, and we’re happy to talk with you or your advisors in confidence about these proven, effective giving tools.

A

Your personal information is important to us as well. Please know that we respect the confidentiality of our donors and DO NOT share, rent, or sell your information to other organizations. If you let us know your wish to remain anonymous, we list your gift as such in our Annual Report.
